The RCS Giving Garden

6/17/19

June 11, 2019
The RCS Giving Garden is up and running for the 2019 season!

I wish everyone could see the gathering of heads, hearts and hands working to get the garden ready to go this past spring!  Despite the challenging cold and rain and late start, the Washington County Master Gardeners and RCS staff and garden friends worked together to construct a permanent garden fence with gates and get the garden prepared and planted.  I am always amazed how individual gifts and talents rise to the top when presented with a project or challenge.  I couldn’t build an effective fence if my life depended on it, but I know who can, and for all of you I am grateful.  May our beautiful plants thrive and produce this season without becoming a bunny salad bar!

Our first volunteer kids came out to the garden this week from the Stillwater Area Schools Summer Adventure Club and Spin Program.  They helped us water, weed and spread compost around our baby plants.  It was fun to see them wrestle with the idea that the rich, brown soil in the compost barrel was once their watermelon rinds and veggie scraps from last season! Rhubarb was our test vegetable of the day, both with and without sugar!  We donated four pounds to Valley Outreach. Thanks for coming back to us each and every year!  Kathy Luoma-WCMG
