It was a beautiful
day in the garden today with five kids from Summer Stretch at Christ Episcopal
Church in Woodbury. This hard working group spent most of the time
constructing tomato cages. These give our tomatoes some support and hold
up all of the green tomatoes already on the vines. We had fun talking
about all of the ways we like to eat tomatoes – BLTs, tomato sandwiches, and
just plain sliced tomatoes. Yum! We can hardly wait for the green
tomatoes to ripen.
Then we did some harvesting! Even though the group on Monday had picked
87 pounds of produce, we harvested another 26 pounds of zucchini, yellow
squash, patty pan squash and cucumbers.
We finished by eating some watermelon at the beautiful new picnic tables.
A perfect end to a busy morning!
