First Tilling of the Garden

Thank you Deb!
Deb Krueger from Krueger's Christmas Tree Farm
A garden starts with the soil... not the seed.  And it is clear that the condition of the soil determines the outcome of the seed.  This will be our sixth growing season, and rich soil takes time to build, and we have been patient.

Soil provides the key to plant health and a garden's vitality. The type and quality of your soil affects not only the success of your garden, but how you'll spend much of your time working there.  We have fed our soil every season using organic matter, such as compost, rotted manure, and chopped leaves.  Not to mention, all of those worms that were left over from our worm composting projects!

Even when we reach that time where our soil is rich, we must contribute to its improvement regularly because soil is a living layer of earth that changes naturally with time and the weather.

Deb Krueger from Krueger's Christmas Tree Farm came over today for the first tilling of the garden.  It is was such a so good to see the organic matter from last year turned in, and that rich, black soil show itself.   Every year, in exchange for the Krueger's gift of tilling, our employees head over to their farm in November to help unload Christmas trees.  It has been a wonderful partnership with a couple of wonderful people!

“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”

Thank you to the Krueger's for all of their support to the garden over the years!
Thank you Deb!
